You are More Valuable than Many Sparrows

February 17, 2017

How valuable are you? Have you ever asked this question? We all know Jesus believes “you are of more value than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:31). This is why He came to save you. You are priceless.

It’s a habit for so many people to value things over people. The fast cars, designer labels and jewels are priced so high a small percentage of people can afford to buy them.

The world needed to be saved so badly the Father “…gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Everlasting life is a life free from death. Eternity is a very long, long, long time and it is a wonderful, priceless, reality to have an eternity with the King of Kings! Jesus tells us:

“Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.  And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.  Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”  Matthew 10:27-31

Sparrows live in open habitats like grasslands, deserts, and scrubland. There are indigenous sparrows all over the world. During the time of Jesus, two Israeli sparrows cost 1 copper coin.

God didn’t go window shopping when He picked you. All you need to do is receive His promises by faith. He’s so detailed about you…He’s numbered every hair on your head. Psalm 56:8 declares, “You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book?” This is how much He loves you.

As the days and months go by and life is full of priceless valuables, food, clothes and all, meditate on how valuable you are to the One TRUE GOD. This is why Jesus came to save you from sin and the world. Sparrows are free to fly. You are free too, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).
