The Hem of His Garment

March 9, 2017

After Jesus healed a young man, thousands flocked around Him and some touched the hem of His garment. It’s been centuries since the time of prophets like Elijah and Elisha. Signs and wonders were rare during the time of Jesus. Then suddenly, in the region of Galilee, the Messiah is the answer to every Galileans prayers.

A woman hears news that a certain man from Nazareth healed a paralytic in Capernaum and another man in the synagogue. The humiliation of her condition kept her secluded from others in the community. Her condition seemed hopeless.

“Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment.  For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”

Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”

But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’”

And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.  And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”  Mark 5:25-34

Her life suddenly changed. She was no longer the woman with an issue! This woman received something she hoped to have and it took twelve years for her to receive it. There was the hem of His garment, FAITH, and her healing.

The thronging of the people caused many to be more patient with Jesus by sitting and waiting for Him to pass by, so they can touch His tallit:

“Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.” Mark 6:56

Faith caused the woman with the issue of blood and others to touch the Hem of His garment. Have faith you and everyone you love will receive healing today. Jesus did little in Nazareth because of their lack of faith…How’s your faith today?
