Sons of Abraham

September 11, 2017

Sons of Abraham are people who stand with God and walk by faith. It took a lot of faith for father Abraham to pack up his belongings and family, to journey to a land he’s never seen (Genesis 12:1). When Abraham finally arrived to the land of Canaan, famine hit the land and the Lord’s promises for his life were challenged. Abraham was tested with many issues most people today would never wait on God for, but he proved himself faithful to the God who blessed him with a son in his old age.

Millions of people are direct descendants of Abraham but are they true heirs of Christ Jesus. It’s unfortunate to know that many denominations don’t believe it’s necessary for descendants of Abraham to receive their promised Messiah, and therefore, they don’t even try to be a witness to them ꟷ both Isaac and Ishmael.

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.  And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Matthew 3:7-12

The Pharisees and Sadducees were descendants of Abraham but their hearts were hard against God. The hardening of the heart causes people to overlook their own shortcomings and they are in denial of the lack of love in their hearts. They were religious, following some of the traditions of their forefathers without true repentance.

Abraham could have turned back to the land of Ur when things looked horrifying but he trusted God. The Lord admired father Abraham so much He called him friend. Are you a true son of Abraham and is the Father God your exceeding great reward?
