Yesterday, during my personal devotional time, I discovered how the Lord is “zealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with great zeal” (Zechariah 1:14).
This statement cancels the falsehood of hating Zion and serving a foreign entity that hates Israel. In other words, if you are against Zion, you are against the God of Zion. It’s a dangerous thing to curse the nation God has blessed.
Let’s think about God’s mercy for His people. Though they sinned and fell, after Babylon led them away captive from the land…He still expressed His zeal for the land and the people:
“I am zealous for Jerusalem
And for Zion with great zeal.
I am exceedingly angry with the nations at ease;
For I was a little angry,
And they helped—but with evil intent.”
‘Therefore thus says the Lord:
“I am returning to Jerusalem with mercy;
My house shall be built in it,” says the Lord of hosts,
“And a surveyor’s line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”’
“Again proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts:
“My cities shall again spread out through prosperity;
The Lord will again comfort Zion,
And will again choose Jerusalem.”’”
In verse fifteen, He said that He was a little angry, but the nations acted with evil intent! This is something many are still at fault with today.
We see this scripture taking place in the past, present, and future. It’s glorious to know how zealous God is for Jerusalem and it gives nations of the world hope He will too be just as zealous for those who love Him.
